There are different kinds of bankruptcies. They are usually called Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13. Most people use either a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Bankruptcy law is very complicated. This is only a general discussion of bankruptcy. For answers to specific questions about bankruptcy, you should talk to a lawyer.
