MISSION The Family Violence Protection Team (FVPT) is a collaborative, community response to family violence that provides multiple services at one location. We improve access to law enforcement, counseling, crisis management and legal services for survivors of family violence and their children. We hope to increase batterer accountability, empower survivors to lead violence-free lives and lead the community's zero tolerance policy toward family violence.
Asserting Your Rights as a Crime Victim
The Texas constitution and the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure give crime victims certain rights, but many crime victim rights are only granted if the victim asks for them. It is a good idea to make the request in writing so that the victim can prove the request was made. As soon as a victim finds out about the arrest, the victim should let the prosecutor's office know that the victim wants to assert his or her rights.
